Wonders of the Water Tour


Day I - 7 Hours - 50 Miles

Arrive at your hotel and check in. Reception. Then meet your guide. We will go to our "class room" on the Osprey Pontoon Boat. Visit the heart of a swamp and Mobile Bay estuary home of over 400 species of fish, and wildlife that include: shrimp, fish, alligators, black bears, bald eagles, and osprey.  We will discuss how the water has affected our culture, economy, ecology, recreation, and cultural diversity. Next we will visit Battleship Memorial Park. Lunch will be served in the wardroom of the mighty World War II Battleship. Tour the battleship, the submarine USS Drum, and the Aircraft Pavilion.  Return to the comfort of your hotel. Dinner will be served at one of our local restaurants. Return to the comfort of your hotel.


Day 2 - 10 Hours - 100 Miles

8:00 am to 6:00 pm 
Breakfast is served in the hotel dining room. Board your coach and depart for Bayou La Batre, a quaint fishing village. We will stop at St. Margaret's Catholic Church. You will be stunned by the beauty of the stained glass windows.  Lunch will be at a local seafood restaurant. Depart for Dauphin Island. Arrive at the Estuarium. Your guide will take you through the exhibit hall. The presentation includes, the most important features of the Mobile Bay Ecosystem, beginning with the MobileTensaw River Delta, Mobile Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Barrier Islands. The Delta is one of the largest of the contiguous 48 states. Go through the aquarium and take the boardwalk along the Living Marsh. The signage provides details about the natural history of the Alabama marshes, geography of the area, and the evolution of the Barrier Islands. Short walk to Fort Gaines. Built in the 1800's, it guards the western side of Mobile Bay, where a famous naval battle was fought during the War Between The States, where Admiral David Farragut uttered the immortal words, "Damn the Torpedoes ... Go Ahead" (Yes, he really did say that). Return to the comfort of your hotel. Dinner served in the hotel dining room.


Day 3 - 5 Hours - 11 Miles

8:00 am to 1:00 pm 
Breakfast is served in the hotel dining room. Check out and board your coach for a tour to Bellingrath Gardens and Home. This Garden Spot of the South changes seasonally. We will tour the home with its many antiques, silver, crystal, and porcelains. Luncheon will be in the Magnolia Restaurant located at the Gardens.   Depart for home.
